WE BRING YOU BLXCKIE’S “B4NOW” DELUXE ALBUM SPECIAL REVIEW

Is it the best newcomer album? The answer may NOT shock you!

(continued) Considering the history of hip-hop albums, we’re in an unprecedented time where people no longer necessarily have or find the time to really sit and listen to a full project. With millions of data spread across one tiny screen daily, it’s sometimes hard for people to pay attention to one thing for very long without a tempting notification or post.

With that, artists have not been able to fully enjoy the pleasure of releasing entire bodies of music. It’s actually been a while since we’ve heard a cohesive album such as the likes of G.O.O.D Kid M.A.A.D City or Price City.

Although we are not sure whether or not Blxckie intended to have this as an album initially since it seems to be all the hits, we appreciate it either way as we didn’t feel like we walked into a playlist of complete strangers, you know? That’s very touching. We at OthersEyed thought we would share this wonderful piece with you, our wonderful readers.

We’re going to be walking you through each song and reviewing some of the elements entailed. Without further chatter, let’s do this thing.

BLXCKIE (Artist) (source: instagram.com/blxckie_)

Gas

“Ahh, man. I’m in the jungle, Tar-zan” lol. This song is definitely a banger. In this hot tune we hear Blxckie once again flexing his rap muscles on a more than violent beat. Gory in fact. Hard bass and a sword sound in there somewhere, definitely war.

One thing we have gotten to learn about Blxckie is his unique style of delivery. Let alone flow. His voice sets him apart from other artists and that just gives him a very unfair advantage really. You can’t replicate that.

This song is one for the seasoned trap lover. Not your regular type of beat, but that’s what makes it gel so well with Blxckie’s delivery.

Sika

Well. Man, what can we say about this song that it doesn’t already say for itself? Ugh, man. What an offering from “Somnyama”. This song turns any regular day into your birthday. This is one of those songs that make you miss being at a family gathering where people are actually happy to be there. The dishing up. The part where the cake is about to be cut. The moderate drinking part. Yeah, good times.

Those are literally the feels we get when we play this. Such a warm and playful number that just takes you elsewhere. Here, Blxckie shows off his relateability by just taking it easy and being grateful. We say this is relatable because it’s the only song with this feel in an album of hard-hitters (well, one of 3 really).

A celebration song and a beautiful sing along. Wow. Beautifully done mntase.

Ye x4 (ft. Nasty C)

Huhh. Well what can we say? Ladies and gentlemen, we bring you the current national anthem. This is easily only of the catchiest songs to have been released by anyone in the past five years at least. “Ye ye ye ye! Ye ye ye ye! Ye ye ye ye! Ye ye!” We haven’t heard anyone say the same thing so many times and make a hit out of it since Justin Bieber’s “Baby”.

Ye x4 features Nasty C who is also from Durban. The two stand proud in representing Durban and made that clear during their live session a few moments prior to releasing this song as a single.

Mind you, we heard Nasty C speak Zulu for the first time ever in public. Yes, spank daddy spoke Zulu. Guess we can call him uSpank Daddy “or Bab Spank” at this point thanks to Blxckie’s influence. On a side note, that actually might’ve been a thing. Nasty C is known for sticking strictly to English as per his international appeal. However, perhaps Blxckie’s ability to capture that international sound whilst adding vernacular might have put a little bit of pressure on Nasty C on the live making him speaks Zulu. A conspiracy theory though, who knows.

Anyway, back to the song. Ye x4 is a banger. Needs no introduction. Just take a listen to it and that’s all it really takes to have a hit. It just bangs.

Stripes (ft. Flvme)

Stripes is definitely a favourite. Really slick 808s and smooth vocals from both artists. They complemented well as Blxckie has a higher pitch while Flvme has a defined deeper tone. Sometimes we wonder how he sounds in the morning.

Anyway, the two really made a great song here because it is a an unexpected feature considering the fact that Blxckie is more in the trap scene however his versatility never ceases to amaze us.

Take a listen to our 4th spoiler from the album. We just couldn’t help but reveal the last song. We hope you have been inspired. We hope that we have made it a bit easier for you to go and stream Blxckie’s B4Now album by walking you through some of our favourites. Now go on! Go spoil yourself.

Stay tuned.
