WHY SINGERS AND RAPPERS GO BANKRUPT

FEATURING: Wizkid & Burna Boy: Ginger. Is this the best collaboration in Africa right now? The answer may NOT shock you!

First of all, we are talking about probably the two smoothest and most successful African artists of our time. Honestly if Davido was on this, it would be the greatest collaboration of our generation.

Also important to add that these two are probably the most identifiable voices on the planet. Both boasting many hits and incredible style to match.

We've never had an opportunity to visit either of their concerts and that dream seems even further with COVID-19 on the loose. What a heartbreaking moment. Without concerts and performances many entertainers are put out of work with barely any income. Music therefore becomes something like a liability as artists spend their money on hefty recording fees, insane budgets for shooting videos and even more for advertising/placements.

For any artist to be releasing music and videos during this time is very noble if anything. It's painful sometimes to know that most artists have 0 funding. In hindsight, the common worker has a better chance of financial stability than any entertainer.

Changes your idea of the glitz and glam right?

Another reason why artists often go broke...the glitz and glam. Everything about being an entertainer is expensive and without the right deals and placements and consistent hits, one risks living an entire life of debt and unhappiness to try and maintain their image (which the public generally expects to stay at a high standard ALL THE TIME.) Let's start with hair (and make-up for female artists), accessories, constant new clothing, shoes etc. And that's just for the artist to wear. Next it's gadgets and other props such as cars etc.

This is besides regular life. Food, housing, water and electricity, healthcare and so forth which the regular citizen only has to worry about. Considering that getting a bond for a house, instalment deal for a car, cellphone contract or even medical aid, information such as payslips have to be issued, which as you might imagine, artists do not have.

It's a very risky world for the entertainers of this world. Yes there are those who get paid millions, however that may be for a single project or 2 perhaps for most. Then what?

So next time you see a great music video or hear an awesome song, just remember that as a selfless act from someone with a passion. This is why we at OthersEyed© will once again give the biggest respect to artists such as Burna Boy and Wizkid.

Respect.

Take a listen to 'Ginger' below.

Stay tuned.
