KOF VS STREET FIGHTER

Which one is better? The answer may NOT shock you!

To be honest, these are two legendary arcade fighting games but which is better?

SNK’s The King of Fighters is an arcade game from the 90’s. A piece of gaming history if you ask us.

Featuring a broad list of fighters such as Iori Yagami, Rugal and Kyo amongst 20 others over the series.

For it’s time, the game was quite advanced in terms of it’s moves list.

Insanely nimble characters such King really helped show off the vast capabilities given to each fighter (specially considering the fact that there were so many of them.)

Story wise, it isn’t really that clear what we’re meant to be following, however the objective is ultimately to beat the boss, Rugal.

As are all awesome things from the late 90s and early 2000s, like DBZ or Tokyo Drift, the game is set in Japan just like it’s competitor, Street Fighter.

Which brings us to Capcom's Street Fighter.

A piece of history really. A game that was and still is the equivalent of Mortal Kombat on PlayStation for many African boys. If you grew up in South Africa especially, you definitely know this game. We won’t even ask.

This game features legendary characters such Ryu, Ken, M Bison and Chun Li (who seems to clearly be Nicki Minaj’s favourite.)

Although this game does not have the same amount of characters that we’ve had introduced to us by the King of Fighters nor does it have a large moves list, it has much more street-cred for some reason. It has even managed to move with the times by expanding beyond it’s renowned game box self to a sophisticated PlayStation game. Although the experience will never really be the same, we cannot disagree with progress.

The one major advantage we felt Street Fighter has over The King of Fighters is it’s respect for the technicalities of martial arts. Unlike The King of Fighters, there aren’t tons of super powers and combos which makes the fighting feel more technical and real rather than fictional.

In conclusion, these games contributed a lot to earlier gaming and both deserve to be shown massive respect. However there can only be one.
